One of the silver medals awarded to the Icelandic men’s handball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics is for sale at The Collector’s Emporium, a collector’s shop in Reykjavík.
From the Collector’s Emporium’s Facebook page.
On the store’s Facebook page, it describes it as a great treasure and that it is on display at their shop, located on Hverfisgata in central Reykjavík.
Its exact origin is not disclosed and neither is the asking price.
Chairman of the Icelandic Handball Association, Guðmundur B. Ólafsson, told rúv.is that he was looking into the matter after hearing about it in the media.
Only team players receive a medal, which means that the medal for sale used to belong to one of them, and not a coach or staff member.
Guðmundur added that he had not heard of a medal being stolen.
