Former Icelandic Minister of the Interior Ólöf Nordal has passed away at the age of 50, following a long battle with cancer, Vísir reports.
Ólöf was born in Reykjavík on December 3, 1966. She graduated from Reykjavík High School (MR) in 1986, after which she earned a law degree from the University of Iceland in 1994. Finally, she graduated with an MBA degree from Reykjavík University in 2002.
Ólöf served as a member of parliament for the Independence Party 2007-2013 and again 2016. She served as minister of the interior from December 2014 until January this year.
She headed a women’s Independence Party association in East Iceland 2006-2009 and served as the vice chair of the Independence Party 2010-2013, and again from 2015.
Ólöf was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. She is survived by a husband and four children.
