Ólöf Arnalds in Winter Solstice Concert

Icelandic singer-songwriter Ólöf Arnalds will celebrate the winter solstice, December 21, with a concert in Café Flóra in the Reykjavík Botanic Garden along with bassist Skúli Sverrisson.

Ólöf will perform songs from her new EP Ólöf Sings which was released last month and unpublished material which will be included in her upcoming album, a press release states.

At the summer solstice in June Ólöf held a concert in the same location.

Wednesday’s concert begins at 9 pm and the house opens one hour earlier. Tickets cost ISK 2,500 (USD 20, EUR 16) and are available on midi.is and in the record store Smekkleysa on Laugavegur.

Ólöf Arnalds earned her spot among Iceland’s most progressive musicians with her debut Við og við in 2007 and her sophomore album Innundir skinni, released by One Little Indian in 2010, received international praise.

Innundir skinni was nominated for the Nordic Music Awards and named as one of the 50 best albums of the year by British music magazine Uncut. The track “Madrid” was chosen as the best song of 2010 by iTunes in the UK.
