Ólöf Arnalds First Icelander to Showcase at WOMEX

Icelandic musician Ólöf Arnalds, who recently received an award at the Icelandic Music Awards, has been offered a prestigious showcase slot at WOMEX 2008, the World Music Expo. Arnalds is the first Icelander to be granted this honor.

Every year WOMEX receives around 600 applications for only 30 available slots, according to Iceland Music Export (IMX).

The UNESCO Alliance for Global Diversity describes WOMEX as “the most important international professional market of world music of every kind. This international fair brings together professionals from the worlds of folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music.”

This year’s event will be held between October 29 and November 2 in Sevilla, Spain. Before performing there, Arnalds is scheduled to play at festivals around Europe. She is currently working on songs for her second album.
