Kristján Jónsson celebrated his 104th birthday yesterday; he’s the oldest living Icelandic man. Kristján is in relatively good health and still lives by himself. Only four living Icelanders are Kristján’s senior, all of whom are women.

The oldest Icelandic man on record was Helgi Símonarson who was 105 and 345 days when he passed away in 2001, Morgunblaðið reports.
Kristján was born on April 22, 1908, in Norður-Ísafjarðarsýsla county in the West Fjords and worked as a driver most of his life.
He has lived in the capital region since 1941, first in Reykjavík but later in Kópavogur in a house which he built himself and in which he still lives.
He married Ragnhildur Guðrún Egilsdóttir on September 19, 1942, who passed away at 91 in 1998. They have one son, Ingvar Jóhann Kristjánsson, who works as chief technician at the Icelandic Coast Guard.
“He is remarkably fit and happy. He still lives in the house that he built and cooks for himself. He gets assistance with cleaning every two weeks,” Ingvar said of his father, adding that his hearing is not as good as it used to be and that his heart has become weak.
