Old Bishopric Hólar Prepares for Annual Festival

The 2008 Hólar Festival will be held in the old bishopric in north Iceland August 15 to 17. The program includes a symposium on textile as part of church art, pilgrimage hiking tours, a special mass and ceremony at the cathedral.

During the festival, Hólar Cathedral will receive a recently-made replica of the cape Bishop Jón Arason (1484-1550) wore during his reign at Hólar.

The festival begins on Friday evening, August 15, with the textile in church art symposium. For Saturday morning two different pilgrimage walks have been organized. A barbeque feast awaits the hikers at Hólar in the evening.

Sunday begins with a mass in Hólar cathedral in the morning. In the afternoon festival attendees will receive coffee and refreshments. The coffee-break will be followed by the closing ceremony during which the Hymnodia choir will perform.
