One hundred years had passed on Wednesday since the first mayor of Reykjavík was inaugurated. The anniversary was celebrated in the City Hall with the opening of an historic exhibition in the Tjarnarsalur exhibition hall.
The exhibition is entitled “Dear Mayor,” where letters addressed to the mayor’s office and other documents Reykjavík mayors have received from the members of the public for the past 100 years are on display, ruv.is reports.
At the exhibition visitors can also view interviews taken with former mayors, which cast a light on the interaction between the mayors of Reykjavík and residents in the city. For the past 100 years 19 individuals have served as mayors, three women and 16 men.
