Oddsson Draws Heat for Early Coalition Letter

The Fréttabladid newspaper has pointed out that the timing of Oddsson’s March 18th 2003 letter of support for the Coalition seems premature considering how little debate had gone on in Iceland’s parliament at that time. Fréttabladid claims the letter is published on the White House web page, and has asked the Foreign Minister’s Office for clarification.

We were unable to find such a letter at the White House web page, (www.whitehouse.gov) but were able to find Oddsson’s letter at www.globalsecurity.org, a non-government conservative website. This letter has been cited frequently by opponents of the government, and has come under more intense speculation after the publication of a full-page protest ad placed in the New York Times last week.
