Number of US Visitors Rises Substantially

Americans made up almost one third of all those flying out of Iceland from Keflavík International Airport in July, Morgunblaðið reports. Out of 272,000 visitors who left the country in July, 29 percent were from the United States.

A total of 80,622 Americans left the country in July which is 33 percent more than in July of last year, according to figures from the Icelandic Tourist Board. Germans made up the second largest group with around 25,000 individuals, similar to last year’s numbers. They were followed by British visitors whose numbers, around 16,000, were 9 percent lower than last July.

The number of tourists has almost tripled in the period between January and July since the year 2013. The number of tourists from North America has more than tripled, and the number of tourists from Central and Southern Europe has almost doubled.
