Number of Presidential Candidates Drops to Six

It was announced on Friday in a statement from the Ministry of the Interior that the candidacy of Ástþór Magnússon was deemed invalid. He must therefore drop out of the race for the presidential election, which takes place on June 30.

The reason for this determination is that the head of the election supervision committee of the Northwest Iceland constituency did not legally guarantee the authenticity of Ástþór’s list of supporters, reports.

The number of presidential candidates is thus down to six. They are: Andrea J. Ólafsdóttir, Ari Trausti Guðmundsson, Hannes Bjarnason, Herdís Þorgeirsdóttir, current President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and Þóra Arnórsdóttir.
