Number of Icelanders Traveling abroad Drops by Half

The number of airplane tickets sold to Icelanders who pass through Keflavík International Airport in the first six months of this year has decreased by almost 45 percent compared to the same period last year.

Departures of Icelanders amounted to 125,000 from January to June this year, compared to 228,000 during the same months of 2008, Fréttabladid reports.

The number of foreign tourist passing through Keflavík International Airport has also dropped slightly, by three percent.

Last year, 179,000 foreign nationals departed from Keflavík from January to June this year, while 184,000 foreign nationals passed through the airport during the same period in 2008.
