The Norwegian state broadcaster NRK has purchased the broadcasting rights for Icelandic crime series Pressa (English title: The Press) by Óskar Jónasson and Sigurjón Kjartansson which premiered on Stöd 2 early this year.
“This is great news for the production of Icelandic television series and a great recognition of what we are doing,” said Kjartan Thór Thórdarson, managing director of Saga Film, which produced Pressa.
“The interest of domestic television channels on Icelandic production has increased considerably and I hope that the development that has taken place recently will continue despite the economic situation,” Thórdarson added, emphasizing, “It could prove very valuable to us if Icelandic television series reach the attention of viewers outside of Iceland.”
The series received positive reviews in Iceland and were the main entry of DR Internationalt Salg, the distributing company of Danish state broadcaster DR—which sold Pressa to NRK on behalf of Saga Film, in the category of “acted suspense series” on the MIPCOM show in Cannes in October.
