North Iceland Hiker Severely Injured

A man suffered serious injuries after falling during a hike of the eastern Vatnsdalsfjall mountain in A-Húnavatnssýsla county in northwest Iceland yesterday. The man was traveling alone and walked a long distance with fractured bones, covered in blood.

A passerby in Vatnsdalur noticed the man lying by the edge of the road next to his car yesterday evening, Morgunblaðið reports.

The man was taken by ambulance to the healthcare center in Blönduós and from there with an ambulance plane to the national hospital Landspítali in Reykjavík.

He suffered head trauma and bone fractures in the upper part of his body.
