NonfictioNOW Attracts Numerous Authors

A conference of authors of nonfiction will be held at the University of Iceland and Harpa Concert Hall June 1-4, according to a press release. Up to 400 authors are expected to attend. NonfictioNOW is a biennial gathering of nonfiction writers, teachers, readers and students, highlighting the myriad forms of nonfiction. Founded in the US in 2005, this is the first time the conference is held in Europe.

NonfictioNOW opens on June 1 at Háskólabíó theater with a panel and screening of the documentary Dreamland, based on the eponymous book by Andri Snær Magnason. On June 2-3, there will be panel sessions at the University of Iceland, where numerous forms of nonfiction will be discussed. Keynote addresses will be given at Harpa Concert Hall on June 2 and 4. The keynote speakers are Gretel Ehrlich, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Aisha Sabatini Sloan and Wayne Koestenbaum.

As part of the off-venue program, authors’ evenings will be held at the Nordic House with international and Icelandic authors, including Jón Gnarr, Elísabet Jökulsdóttir and Vilborg Davíðsdóttir. President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson will close the conference with an address, following the last keynote speech at Harpa on June 4.

Tickets to keynote addresses at Harpa can also be purchased separately at harpa.is.
