No room for Iceland Express at Reykjavík airport

Icelandic airline’s Iceland Express’ request about renting facilities at the domestic airport in Reykjavík was rejected by Air Iceland, the airline that owns and runs the airport.

Iceland Express announced in October last year that the airline would begin scheduled flights to Akureyri, in the north, and Egilsstadir, in the east, next summer and compete directly with Air Iceland in the domestic aviation market. Fréttabladid reports.

CEO of Iceland Express Matthías Imsland told reporters that the current pricing on these routes shows that competition is needed. It is now uncertain whether Iceland Express can provide that competition.
