The play Njála, a modern take on the Icelandic Njáls saga, won the most trophies at Gríman, the Icelandic Theater Awards last night. The play won ten awards out of 11 nominations, including as Best Play.
Þorleifur Arnar Arnarsson was named Best Director and Brynhildur Guðjónsdóttir, who played Njáll, Best Actress. Njála, written by Þorleifur, Mikael Torfason and Erna Ómarsdóttir, was also awarded for set design, costumes, music and more, ruv.is reports.
Hilmir Snær Guðnason was named Best Actor for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Stefán Baldursson, former director of the National Theater and the Icelandic Opera, was given the honorary award.
