Ninety Companies Reprimanded for Foreign Labor

Ninety companies, primarily construction companies, have been reprimanded for not registering their foreign staff as revealed by the Directorate of Labor, who visited workplaces as part of its three-month initiative “Allt í ljós” (“Everything on the surface”).

According to Gissur Pétursson, head of the directorate, the experience from the initiative will be useful in future surveillance undertaken by the directorate while monitoring whether immigrant employees have been registered, ruv.is reports.

A new position has been created at the directorate specifically for that purpose.

In March, the directorate will investigate the foreign-labor situation in shops and restaurants in Iceland.
