Five-hundred-and-ninety hotel rooms are set to be built at Hlemmur square in Reykjavík, located just east of the city center, taking the total number of hotel rooms in the square to 900 as of next June, mbl.is reports.
CenterHotels has started renovating a 150-room hotel, CenterHotel Miðgarður, where Búnaðarbankinn and later Kaupþing and Arion bank have been housed.
Nearby, Fosshotel is building a 340-room hotel at Höfðatorg and two other 100-room hotels are being built at Hlemmur square. Three hotels already exist, Hlemmur Square Hotel, 4th Floor Hotel and Hotel Klettur.
Hlemmur is where the main bus station in Reykjavík is located.
