Nigerian Sentenced to Prison for Faking Passport

Reykjanes District Court sentenced a 21-year-old Nigerian citizen to one month in prison for misusing documents by trying to enter Iceland on July 26 with a falsified passport, posing as a 32-year-old Swiss citizen.

The man confessed to the crime and the court took his confession into account when deciding the length of his prison sentence, Morgunbladid reports.

Considering that the man confessed and that he has not violated the Icelandic penal code on earlier occasions, while taking into serious account the fact that passports are public IDs, a prison sentence of one-month was considered reasonable.
