Nick Cave composes for Icelandic theater group

British musician Nick Cave will compose the music for a new show to be staged by Vesturport Theater Group at the Reykjavík City Theater and Barbican Center in London, UK this fall. The play, Woyzeck, is by the German playwright Georg Buchner.

According to the Morgunbladid, Cave has already sent Vesturport two texts and eleven draft scores. The director, Gísli Örn Garðarsson, says that he “just picked up the phone and called Cave.”

The production is a cooperation between Vesturport, Reykjavík City Theater, Artbox and the Barbican Center. The actors are from Vesturport. The show will be in Icelandic in Iceland and English in London. The play will debut in Iceland in September and in London in October.
