Newcastle owner denies talks with Icelandic investors

Mike Ashley, owner of English football club Newcastle United, denied yesterday that he is negotiating with Icelandic businessmen Jón Ásgeir Jóhannesson and Pálmi Haraldsson to sell a large share of his club.

“There is absolutely no truth in us being in talks to sell the club whatsoever,” a spokesman for Ashley told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. “If anything Mike and his team are getting a bit fed up with all this sort of speculation and just want to get on with the job.”

When asked about the rumors, Haraldsson only said Newcastle is a great club with a great manager and that he had been a fan for a long time.

Channel 2 reported yesterday that Haraldsson had admitted that he had also been interested in the club as an investor, but that a leak to the media had ruined a potential business deal.
