Chair of the Social Democrats Árni Páll Árnason intends to meet with leaders of other parties to try to achieve cross-political reconciliation on changes of the constitution in stages, ruv.is reports.

Not all Social Democrats are said to be content with Árni Páll’s suggestion. The party’s former chair, Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, would not comment on the issue.

Valgerður Bjarnadóttir, who chairs the parliament’s Constitutional and Supervisory Committee and has often voiced her opinion that the reviewing of the constitutional bill should be completed this term, stated that she has done what she can and that the matter is now in Árni Páll’s hands. She will stand by the chairman’s decisions, she added.

Leaders of all parties apart from The Movement stated that they are prepared to discuss the matter.
