Filmmaker Pétur Kristján Gudmundsson took a few videos of the movements of the ash cloud during the eruption in Grímsvötn, May 21-28. He has now edited them and made them public on vimeo.com, as reported on mbl.is.

Meanwhile, a geologist who recently traveled to the eruption zone on Vatnajökull glacier to measure the ash layer after the Grímsvötn eruption described the trip to ruv.is as a drive through the Hekla desert.
The ash layer closest to the crater has a thickness of tens of meters.
