A new trawler, Engey RE 1, arrived in Reykjavik over the weekend. At 7800 tons, Engey is not only the newest but also the largest fishing vessel ever to enter service in Iceland. She is over 100 meters long and 20 meters wide.
Her crew of 26 can process and freeze up to 250 tons of catch every 24 hours. An on-board factory can produce 150 tons of fishmeal every day.
Engey was built in 1994 in Spain and was re-fitted in Poland for her new Icelandic owners, Grandi. On her first trip, she will go fish for herring, capelin and whiting.
