New Suspicions of Arsonist in Westman Islands

By Iceland Review

A building caught fire in the Westman Islands yesterday. Police do not rule out arson, but would not confirm anything until the investigation of the source of the fire is completed. This is the third fire in the islands this year and the others were intentional.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire quickly and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings, but one firefighter suffered minor injuries when he fell four meters down from a ladder, Fréttabladid reports.

A series of fires were reported in buildings near the Westman Islands harbor in December last year, some of which were deliberate, but police do not have any suspects. One of the fires, in a fishmeal factory, nearly caused a chemical accident.
