A new sign was put up on Reynisfjara beach, South Iceland, today, Vísir reports. The beach, a popular tourist destination, is notorious for its dangerous waves.
Warning signs were put up there on February 25, following a fatal accident on February 10, when a Chinese tourist was swept out to sea by a sneaker wave. Those signs were criticized for not being clear enough.
In May of 2007, a US woman died on the beach after being swept out by a wave. In January of 2013, a guide came to a woman’s rescue where she lay disoriented on the beach, about to be submerged by the water.
The engineering firm EFLA designed the new sign.
