New Scheduled Flights between Iceland and Seattle

Icelandair announced Seattle as a new destination yesterday. The airline will offer scheduled flights between Iceland’s International Airport Keflavík and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport four times a week, starting July 22, 2009.

“When SAS disappears from the market between Scandinavia and Seattle in summer an opportunity appears for Icelandair,” managing director of Icelandair Birkir Hólm Gudnason told amx.is.

Gudnason stated that with stopovers in Iceland, Icelandair can offer three to four hour shorter journeys between Seattle and European destinations and, through its cooperation with Alaska Airlines, good connections with American cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“We expect to create direct employment for up to 100 people in addition to creating important jobs all over Iceland with an increased flow of tourists,” Gudnason said. “Also, Seattle is a very attractive and interesting city to visit and it’s the sister city of Reykjavík.”
