The Minister of Education, Thorgerdur Katrín Gunnarsdottir has put forward a new bill for state radio and television RÚV. Replacing the monthly fee, which all television owners need to pay, a tax will be added to every individual aged 16-70 earning more than ISK 800,000 per year.
The tax will be 1.120 ISK per month and will increase RUV’s revenue by ISK 400 million per year, including the economic benefit of the cost of debt-collection. “This is a fairer and less expensive cost for individuals, ” says Gunnarsdóttir.
