Next Monday, August 1, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, Iceland’s newly elected president will be instated into his new job. Guðni was elected with a little less than 40% of the vote in the June election.
Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, the outgoing president, has already moved out of Bessastaðir, the president’s formal residence. According to the president’s office, some maintenance is needed before Guðni, his wife Eliza Reed, and their four children move in.
According to ruv.is the new president has put his old apartment up for rent and already found new tenants. Should some repairs be needed Guðni Th. has stated that he will come personally to fix things, according to the same source.
During the campaign Guðni stated that he would continue to ride his bike with his children for playschool every day after the election.
