The Civil Protection Department has advised people to cover their nose and mouth with dust masks in the regions close to the eruption as there is a great deal of ash in the air.

At the moment there is a westerly wind, but according to information from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the wind direction could change and come from the north next weekend.
