Icelandic journalist and pilot Ómar Ragnarsson along with filmmaker Friðþjófur Helgason made the following video of the Holuhraun eruption during a recent evening flyover. Ómar, who has covered 25 eruptions during his roughly 40 year career, told RÚV that it wasn’t until his sixth flight over Holuhraun that he felt he managed to capture the right footage.
Ómar has used every available opportunity to film the eruption but for various reasons the conditions have not always been ideal, he told RÚV.
The footage can be viewed here (it starts at 17 minutes into the video).
