New News Director for RÚV

Audun Georg Ólafsson resigned as RUV’s news director on his first day on the job. Ólafsson, whose hiring caused a near shut-down at RUV, misrepresented himself in an interview, and later resigned.

Ólafsson’s was unpopular at RUV because staff believed he had been hired not for his work experience and merits but because of his political connections.

Ódinn Jónsson, a vocal critic of the director of RUV, Markús Örn Antonsson, said he was surprised to be hired.

“I think Antonsson showed courage hiring me despite my criticism of his actions over the past few weeks.”

Jónsson says that first on his agenda is to create unity and lift morale.
