New National Hospital of Iceland to Be Erected

Minister of Health Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson and chairman of a committee on the construction of a new university hospital, Inga Jóna Thórdardóttir, announced at a meeting yesterday that construction will begin in 2009 or 2010.

The new hospital will rise by Hringbraut road in central Reykjavík spanning 150,000 square meters, about the same size as three Kringlan shopping malls, Fréttabladid reports.

A preliminary model of the new hospital buildings has been created by Danish architect company C.F. Möller, although an architect competition will be held to decide the final look of the hospital.
