New Museum Handbook Released

The Museum Guide 2010 has been released. It includes information on all museums, tourism centers, exhibitions, national parks and the main churches and cemeteries in Iceland. The book’s purpose is to strengthen culture-related tourism.

Iceland has in the past years mostly been marketed as a country with spectacular nature but now culture-related tourism is more at the forefront of marketing initiatives, a press release states.

In culture-related tourism, museums play a key role. There are almost 200 museums around the country, which are visited by more than one million people every year.

This is the first time that a universal and accessible registry about museums, tourism centers and exhibitions in Iceland has been published for tourists.

The book is released in Icelandic and English and is distributed all around the country. It is free and handy for travelers to carry with them on their trips.

The Museum Guide was published by the publishing house Gudrún in cooperation with the Museum Council and the Association of Icelandic Museums.
