New Mayor Will Not Attend Stockholm Conference

The new Mayor of Reykjavík Ólafur F. Magnússon announced yesterday that he will not attend the capital city conference in Stockholm between January 30 and February 1 as planned, since he would like to concentrate on running the city.

According to an announcement from the mayor’s office, Magnússon prefers using the time to familiarize himself with important projects awaiting attention from him, which he has not been able to look into yet since he was only appointed mayor last week, Morgunbladid reports.

Magnússon further stated that it is important to create stability and a peaceful atmosphere for working in Reykjavík City after the turbulent events that have taken place for the past few days.

Members of the new majority coalition in Reykjavík City Council Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir and Vilhjálmur Th. Vilhjálmsson, and Gunnar Eydal, former office manager of the City Council, will travel to Stockholm in Magnússon’s place.
