The website states that the goals of the new party include the well-defined right of all to good education and healthcare, a flourishing cultural life and for the quality of life in Iceland to be similar to in neighboring countries.

Among many other goals the party sets forth are a stable economy and varied employment opportunities. The party would seek to increase national revenues by encouraging innovation, and with the sensible use of natural resources, now and into the future. They want to narrow the budget deficit and reduce national debt, Ví reported.

Their fiscal priorities include quick removal of currency controls and all barriers to trade. The party says it stands for liberty, equality, democracy and equal voting rights for all.

One of the party’s biggest differences from others on the right is its desire to complete European Union accession talks and get the best accession treaty possible for the Icelanders, before asking the nation to vote on membership in a referendum.

The party’s founders are Benedikt Jóhannesson, Ellisif Tinna Víðisdóttir and Hanna Katrín Friðriksson.
