A new Icelandic comedy, Á annan veg (“Another Way”), featuring two young men working on remote roads, premieres in the cinemas Smárabíó and Háskólabíó in Reykjavík today and a week later in Borgarbíó, Akureyri, north Iceland.
The film, directed by Hafsteinn G. Sigurdsson, has also been invited to participate in the San Sebastian film festival in Spain, September 16-24, where it will compete against 14 other films for the “Kutxa – New Directors Award”.
A press release describes the film as a “hilarious and human comedy”. The two main characters hand paint markings on asphalt and put up yardsticks on mountain roads in the 1980s. They rather dislike both their jobs and each other, but suddenly life takes a surprising turn which makes them value each other’s friendship.
The main roles are played by Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson, Hilmar Gudjónsson and Thorsteinn Bachmann. The screenplay was written by the director and Gunnarsson. The film was produced by Mystery Island and Flickbook Films.
