The new Icelandic banknote worth ISK 10,000 (USD 83, EUR 61), which went into use on Wednesday, is too big to fit in many regular wallets, ruv.is reports.
The note is seven millimeters longer than the next biggest note, the ISK 5,000 note, but was reportedly designed to be larger than the other notes in order for it to be easily distinguishable from other Icelandic banknotes.
Dedicated to national poet Jónas Hallgrímsson (1807-1845), the banknote is adorned with his profile, along with references to his work of poetry and his work as a natural scientist, as stated on the ministry’s website.
