New Icelandic Ambassador for Canada

Iceland’s Foreign Ministry announced yesterday that former minister and MP Sigrídur Anna Thórdardóttir will replace Markús Örn Antonsson as Iceland’s Ambassador to Canada, based in Ottawa, as of July 1, 2008.

According to ruv.is, Antonsson will assume the post of the director of the Culture Center in Reykjavík.

Thórdardóttir was born in Siglufjördur, north Iceland, in 1946. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Icelandic language and literature, history and Greek from the University of Iceland and has also studied at the University of Minnesota, USA.

Between 2004 and 2006 Thórdardóttir was Minister of the Environment and from 1991 to 2007 she serves as an MP to Iceland’s Althingi Parliament for the Independence Party.
