New Iceland Airwaves Manager Announced

Following the recent five-year deal between Icelandair and Iceland Music Export on taking over the management of Iceland Airwaves, IMX has announced that Grímur Atlason has been hired for the position of festival manager.

Atlason is an experienced concert and festival promoter who has worked with a number of musicians over the years, ranging from international stars like Morrissey, Sonic Youth and Elbow to homegrown heroes such as Sigur Rós and Björk, icelandmusic.is states.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the festival,” commented Atlason. “Iceland Airwaves has over the years been established as one of the most cool and interesting festivals of its kind in Europe. Reykjavík is the ideal place for the festival to take place—small but with a metropolitan character.”

“There is a great opportunity to go further with Airwaves now that its financial structure is secured and the whole Icelandic environment is as music-friendly as ever before. My plan is to carry on creating a great festival for the audience, the artists and the music industry,” the festival manager stated.
