New education center in Iceland proves popular

The new education center Keilir, located in the old US Naval Air Station near Keflavík, began teaching yesterday. Its pre-university program has proven popular; 200 applied for 108 available slots.

Teaching began with a one-week adjustment course for new students. Keilir offers a program specifically designed to prepare students who did not finish secondary school for studying at the University of Iceland, Fréttabladid reports.

The 108 students are separated into three different departments: social sciences and humanities, economics and law, and engineering and natural sciences.

Student housing is also offered at Keilir and students who live there get free tickets for the Reykjanes Express, a bus that drives between Keilir and the University of Iceland campus in Reykjavík.
