New Chair Voted to Reykjavík Nursing Home Board

Former minister and Central Bank governor Jón Sigurðsson was elected chairman of the board of Eir, a nursing home and apartment complex for senior citizens in Reykjavík, on Friday. The home’s finances are in shambles, leading to the entire board stepping down.

“I’m very satisfied with Jón Sigurðsson having been elected chairman. I find it a particularly good choice,” outgoing chair of Eir Magnús L. Sveinsson told

Magnús had taken over from Vilhjálmur Þ. Vilhjálmsson, who resigned as chair in November.

“We will continue to work towards solutions and hopefully there will be more peace so that we can focus on solutions rather than problems surrounding the board and administration,” commented managing director of Eir Sigurður Rúnar Sigurjónsson.

The new board will meet this week to review Eir’s situation, decide what the next steps will be and form a policy on future steps.
