New Book on Iceland’s 13 Yule Lads Released

A new book on the infamous Icelandic Yule Lads, the 13 ogre brothers who come to town in the nights before Christmas to present children with little treats and do some pranks, has been released. The author and illustrator of the book is Brian Pilkington.

Pilkington informs readers of little known facts about the brothers, for example that Sheep-Cote Clod is a mama’s boy, a press release from Forlagid, the publisher, reveals. Their mama is naturally the fearsome ogress Grýla, who has naughty children for dinner.

The book also contains information on the favorite foods of each Yule Lad and advice on how people can get to know them. It is, for example, not advisable to leave stinky socks in your bedroom on December 22, when Door Sniffer comes to town.

Pilkington is a well-known for his illustrations in Icelandic children’s books, especially for his troll images.

Pilkington’s The 13 Yule Lads of Iceland is published both in Icelandic and English. The book is available here (email [email protected] if you have any questions).
