New Board Appointed for Glitnir Bank

The Icelandic Financial Supervisory Authority (FME) has established a new company to take over the board of Glitnir Bank, which is now known as Nýi Glitnir, or the New Glitnir. The new board has not begun operating yet.

According to Fréttabladid, the new CEO is Birna Einarsdóttir, who served as managing director of the old Glitnir Bank’s commercial banking division.

The new CEO of Landsbanki Bank, or Nýi Landsbanki Íslands, is also a woman, Elín Sigfúsdóttir, former manager for the bank’s company division.

The FME has yet to establish a similar company to take over the board of Kaupthing Bank and committees on its behalf are still in control in both Glitnir and Kaupthing, but the New Landsbanki has begun operating.

It has been revealed that nearly 500 employees will be laid off at Landsbanki, but it is uncertain how many employees will lose their jobs at the other banks. “This uncertainty is bad for everyone,” said chairman of Glitnir’s Company Union Anna Karen Hauksdóttir.
