The exhibition “Inflexio” of abstract paintings by Marta Jónsdóttir opens at Gallery Ágúst in Reykjavík today during Culture Night. Her artwork is characterized by colorful forms, painted in thin layers, often on the verge of being drawings.
“She creates her work with acrylic paint often in many layers, a sort of nostalgia for the abstract painting or an ode to futurism, but also the painter’s speculations regarding the light, the color, the sight and the eye. Rigid and soft forms converge in large dynamic paintings and in smaller more poetic works of art,” a press release states.
Jónsdóttir studied painting in Reykjavík and London. She also studied animation and has created numerous artistic-, music- and animation videos in Iceland and abroad, also working on book illustrations and cover designs for music production.
The artist has exhibited her artwork in many locations in Iceland and also in Germany, the US, England and the Netherlands.
“Inflexio” runs through October 9. For further details on the gallery and exhibition visit the gallery’s website.
