Nelson Mandela Photo Exhibition in Ísafjördur

By Iceland Review

A photography exhibition dedicated to Nelson Mandela will open in Edinborgarhús Culture Center in Ísafjördur, the capital of the West Fjords, on Saturday. The pictures were taken by Dr. Peter Magubane, a well-known South African press photographer.

The exhibition is entitled “Madiba: Man of Destiny” and comprises almost 100 photographs taken over the past 50 years, depicting scenes from Mandela’s life and the history of South Africa, ruv.is reports.

The photographs, which will be on display throughout November, have also been exhibited in Norway and Finland. The exhibition in Ísafjördur was made possible through the South African ambassador in Oslo, Ismail Coovadia.

It is organized by Raetur, an association supporting cultural diversity, in cooperation with Edinborgarhús Culture Center and the Jón Sigurdsson Museum in Hrafnseyri.

The exhibition will not be put on anywhere else in Iceland and after it closes in Ísafjördur the photographs will be taken back to South Africa where Dr. Magubane will give them to the Mandela Foundation.
