Neighbor of Lighthouse Afraid to Be Naked

Helgi Arndal Davídsson, who lives on Vitastígur 12 in Hafnarfjördur, has grown tired of people walking through his backyard to observe a wooden 110-year-old defunct lighthouse which is located there. He says his privacy is being violated.

“People walk through my yard at all hours in all sorts of conditions to look at the old lighthouse. I wake up in the morning because people are standing in front of my bedroom window with cameras,” Davídsson described to Fréttabladid.

“I can’t even take a shower and walk around butt naked because people might be staring through the window,” he added.

Davídsson said items are regularly stolen from his garden and his son doesn’t want to play outside anymore because of all the people passing through.

The lighthouse is surrounded by private houses on all sides. Davídsson said he has discussed the problem with city and harbor authorities but no one is willing to do anything about it.

On the contrary, the local Tourist Council increasingly directs people towards the lighthouse, he stated.

“The best thing would be to remove the lighthouse and place it, for example, at the district museum downtown. Then people can walk around it and look at it from the inside,” he suggested.

“If this isn’t done, I demand that city authorities place a fence between my garden and the lighthouse. Otherwise the mayor could place it in his own yard,” Davídsson suggested.
