Need for blood in Reykjavík Blood Bank

There is a serious shortage of blood in the Reykjavík Blood Bank for the second time in two weeks, due to an unusually high number of operations.

Two weeks ago blood donors were requested and the reaction was good. But now even more blood donors are needed to keep up with demand. The blood bank needs about 70 donors a day. Fréttabladid reports.

Sigrídur Ósk Lárusdóttir of Reykjavík Blood Bank told Fréttabladid that there have been many accidents, cases of sickness and operations lately, requiring a lot of blood.

Reykjavík Blood Bank will be open longer than usual, until 5 pm today, and the Mobile Blood Bank will visit Selfoss.
