Neat Football Team to Play in Messy City

By Iceland Review

The Icelandic men’s national football team landed in Chambéry, in the southeastern part of France, yesterday afternoon, neatly dressed in blue suits, RÚV reports. The city is about 40 km (25 miles) from the alpine town of Annecy where their base will be during the UEFA EURO 2016.,

Their first game will be against Portugal June 14 in Saint-Étienne.

A week-long strike among workers in garbage pickup service in Saint-Étienne has created quite a mess, according to RÚV. The mayor worries that fan Zones can’t open for sanitary reasons. Other strikes are affecting the area as well, resulting in concerns that bus service will be interrupted on the day of Iceland’s first game. Negotiations between workers and city authorities have not been successful. The mayor has sought the assistance of the French Interior Ministry in solving the dispute.
