NATO Exercises in Faxaflói Bay

By Iceland Review

Faxaflói bay, Southwest Iceland, was the site of an eerily warlike situation yesterday, as warships, helicopters, fighter jets, and submarines were all present. Not to fear, however; it was all part of routine NATO military exercises.

Clive C.C. Johnstone, admiral and commander of NATO’s Allied Maritime Command, told RÚV that the goal of the exercises is to get the NATO fleet up to speed in matters of submarine defense, which is of crucial importance due to increased danger from submarines throughout the world.

In total, ten NATO nations are taking part in the exercises, which will continue until July 6.
